PSM Upstream solutions
The PSM Story:
A shared vision
The PSM Upstream journey began with a shared vision and determination to transform industry norms. PSM was founded in Perth, Western Australia in 2016 by two seasoned Subsea Engineers with extensive local and international experience. They both shared a deep concern for how critical equipment and capital spares were neglected (overlooked?) in the oil and gas sector. Witnessing the deterioration of valuable and critical assets left to decay in subpar conditions, Shaheer Mawani and Frode Remvik set out to chart a new course for the preservation, maintenance and management of assets and PSM Upstream Solutions was founded.
The unique business idea
PSM’s unique business idea is to provide in-storage preservation and maintenance for any type of equipment in the energy sector. Size, type or complexity is not a limitation for service delivery and method statements have been developed for a broad range of assets. As the company does not manufacture any equipment there is no conflict of interest, and a genuine drive to care for assets so they can increase their reliability, performance and lifespan. With their knowledge of the oil and gas industry, sustainability, quality and reducing waste were the main pillars of building PSM and are still critical to this day.
In-house research and development
With no direct competitors, Frode and Shaheer had the opportunity to create a whole new business offering. A very challenging feat. The first years in business PSM had to develop all the knowledge, skills and documentation in-house. From experimenting with desiccant dosages and packaging methods to developing an information system that could house all relevant asset information including a large number of detailed photos. With their extensive experience with the oil and gas operators these were all features that they knew the clients were looking for.
Engineering smarts
When founding the company, Frode and Shaheer realised there was a gap between warehousing, engineering, and operations. They identified a lack of understanding of how assets were preserved for long term storage. This was exacerbated by the lack of communication between engineering departments and the rest of the supply chain. PSM strives to close this gap with our engineering approach to all aspects of asset management.
Our next move
In 2018 the first major preservation contract was awarded to PSM and since then the business has been on a continuous growth path. The PSM offering has now come to expand into a full life cycle management for assets including the fabrication of compliant crates for preservation and transportation, mobilisation and asset tracking along with cataloguing. Lately, decommissioning of subsea assets has had a strong growth and with other potential offerings in the works, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
