Engineered Cataloguing

PSM performs cataloguing a bit differently as our Technicians have hands on experience and comprehensive knowledge of the assets. We believe that a rigid cataloguing process can reduce wasteful procurement and save on resources when it’s done by people who know the equipment.

Cataloguing is often the first step towards a gap analysis, especially in a project environment. We can catalogue in our workshop or on site. Information such as part numbers, serial numbers, weights, dimensions, client material numbers and expiry of certificates are captured. Detailed photos are taken before our team report on the status of the asset to the client. We always provide a recommendation on how to move forward with the equipment, which may include disposal, repairs, re-certification, or cleaning and preservation.

A systematic approach

At PSM, we offer a unique and systematic approach to asset management through, among others, our cataloguing services. Our process ensures that your equipment inventory is updated, complete and organised, leading to streamlined operations, enhanced visibility, and cost savings.

What sets PSM apart is our belief in a flexible cataloguing process that optimises resources and minimises waste. We understand that cataloguing isn’t just about recording data—it’s about leveraging expertise to drive meaningful asset insights for decision making.

Our specialised team assesses the status of each asset and provides tailored recommendations to our clients. These recommendations may include options such as disposal, repairs, re-certification, or cleaning and preservation, based on the specific needs of the equipment and the client’s operational requirements.

Identify client requirements

Together with the client we agree on the scope of the cataloguing. Our system Asset Panda is very flexible and can accommodate any request, including additional fields.

Identify and inspect assets

Our knowledgeable PSM team have expertise in correctly identifying assets and  serial numbers and part numbers of assemblies. With an expertise in subsea equipment they are equally comfortable identifying topsides equipment used in the energy sector. .

We also identify long lead, production critical, obsolete and high-value assets that may not meet operational standards.

Make asset specific recommendations

While identifying and inspecting the asset our technicians in conjunction with the quality department will  create an informed recommendation for the asset by assessing its condition. In the cataloguing scope of work these recommendations can be defined but the most common ones we work with are:

  • Quarantine – asset will be put aside with a status of “Quarantined”. The Client is informed as required to seek clarification for further action. This could be inspection by OEM, other third party or Client inspectors.
  • Cleaning – asset would benefit from cleaning; this can range from dust removal to decades of marine growth.
  • Small repairs – most of these can be done by PSM in-house, these vary from replacing spare parts to coating repairs and replacement of parts.
  • Corrosion removal – PSM specialises in corrosion removal and this can be done in-house on any type of equipment using cleaning components that are compatible with the asset.
  • Packaging improvements – if the current packaging is deemed unsuitable a recommendation will be made to provide suitable packaging such as timber crating that complies to the NTC and AS1720.1. A CoC with a guaranteed WLL is issued with all timber crates.
  • Disposal – the asset is deemed to be beyond repair and PSM can aid in the asset divestment process.

Catalogue assets with standardised naming conventions

Using the PSM standardised naming convention all assets are catalogued in the same way creating a streamlined process ensuring easy and  clear access to information for the client. All critical information is catalogued including:

  • Quantity
  • Weight and dimensions
  • Client material number
  • Serial Number
  • Part Number
  • Certifications or other documentation
  • Spare parts found
  • Owner

QR code asset

All catalogued assets are labelled with their Asset ID and QR code for track and trace. The QR code can be scanned globally using the Asset Panda app and its information can be access from Asset Panda’s cloud based storage. This provides accurate and precise asset tracking for the client.

When assets are scanned using the mobile app, GPS coordinates are captured that can be displayed in Google maps. This makes tracing clearly visible to the user.

Compile report to client

Clients have full visibility of catalogued assets and inspection details through Asset Panda. At the end of the cataloguing process, we send out a compiled report to the client to provide and easy to read overview.

This report will clearly show all catalogued assets, an overview photo, quantity, findings and recommendations and can be adjusted to include any other information such as certification expiry dates as required. The client can also choose to receive ongoing, automated reports and notifications for proactive preservation and maintenance.
